Known affectionately as “Mr. Warmth”, Hollywood lost another pillar in the community with the recent passing of comic legend Don Rickles.

 

Hollywood is mourning after the passing of comic legend, Don Rickles. Known for his quick wit and ability to make fun of anyone and everyone, Mr. Rickles leaves behind a great legacy. His career spanned from 1950-2017 and during that time he won over generations of audiences with biting humor and perfect comedic timing. Off-stage Don Rickles is remembered for his gentleness and genuine friendships.  Here are just a few reasons we will miss “Mr. Warmth”.

 

1. Don Rickles Taught Us How To Laugh At Ourselves

Life is too short.  Mr. Rickles taught us that everyone is funny – you’re either the brunt of the joke or making it.  Lighten up and learn to see the humor in your story.

2. Comic Legend Made Lemons Out Of Lemonade

Don Rickles served in the US Navy in WW2. After being honorably discharged, he went on to study at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York.  When acting jobs became harder to find, Mr. Rickles refused to give up and decided to give stand up comedy a try.  The rest is history.

 

3. Comic Legend Don Rickles Left The Insults On The Stage

Mr. Rickles has had Hollywood gushing with fondness as they remember the comedic great.

“He was called ‘The Merchant of Venom,’ but in truth, he was one of the kindest, caring, and most sensitive human beings we have ever known,” Ginnie and Bob Newhart said in a statement, Variety reported.  “We are devastated and our world will never be the same. We were totally unprepared for this.”

4. Legend Rickles Knew Where His Strength Was Born

“I was Momma’s little boy,” he says. “She had a good business head. She was very critical. And she was very forceful. All actors are shy when they’re kids. I was. She got me to talk up. She gave me courage.”

 

5. Never Afraid To Say What Everyone Else Is Thinking

Many attribute his friendship with some of the great Hollywood actors and comedians to Don’s ability to call it like it is.  There was no walking on eggshells with Mr. Rickles.  Everyone was fair game for his ribbing – friends and family alike.  He was known for making a joke out of what everyone else was thinking. Rickles was 100% authentic, 100% of the time.

Don Rickles’ infectious laugh, charming wit and love for everyone will be greatly missed.
