George Michael Secret Philanthropist

George Michael was sadly found dead Christmas Day 2016 at age 53. Several of the iconic pop singer’s music videos understandably went viral as fans played his music to remember the singer, including a lesser-known song by George Michael Praying for Time. The singer, whose personal life was often the stuff tabloids loved to cover, also had a generous side that wasn’t fully revealed until after his death. Read on to learn more about George Michael Secret Philanthropist.

Since George’s death, many fans and charities have come forward talking about how he quietly made large, generous donations to organizations such as Macmillan Cancer Support and Childline.

He also secretly donated the royalties from his duet with Elton John, ‘Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me‘. DJ Mick Brown said he would run a charity drive at Easter and George would call in every year with a donation of more than $122,000. Others were coming forward on Twitter to share their stories of how quietly generous George had been.

Another woman wrote about how she met George volunteering at a homeless shelter, but that he asked her and the other volunteers not to make a big deal over the fact that he’d been there. But while he didn’t want to draw attention to himself for his good deeds, he did use his fame to support causes he believed in, performing in benefit concerts and even wearing a Project Angel Food apron to a press conference to bring awareness to the charity.

“George Michael always used his fame to support noble causes. He was a phenomenal performer, but also a good man. Remembering both tonight.” Anthony Breznican from EW wrote.

Here are a few of George Michael’s videos, with some of the lyrics that he wrote.

Praying for Time lyrics excerpt

Do you think we have time?
Do you think we have time?

These are the days of the open hand
They will not be the last
Look around now
These are the days of the beggars and the choosers

This is the year of the hungry man
Whose place is in the past
Hand in hand with ignorance
And legitimate excuses

The rich declare themselves poor
And most of us are not sure
If we have too much
And it’s hard to love, there’s so much to hate
Hanging on to hope
When there is no hope to speak of
And the wounded skies above say it’s much too late
Well maybe we should all be praying for time

Jesus to a Child Lyrics excerpt

Kindness
In your eyes
I guess
You heard me cry
You smiled at me
Like Jesus to a child
I’m blessed
I know
Heaven sent
And Heaven stole
You smiled at me
Like Jesus to a child
And what have I learned
From all this pain
I thought I’d never feel the same
About anyone
Or anything again
But now I know
Sadness
In my eyes
No one guessed
Or no one tried
You smiled at me
Like Jesus to a child
