Multiple Sclerosis Won’t Stop Swimmer From Reaching Her Goal

Betsy Lavin had always been an athletic person but her life took a drastic turn when she was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 2009. She feared her identity would disappear as a result of the disease. In spite of the diagnosis she pushed forward.

Betsy refused to let the diagnosis define her. In 2016 she set a goal to swim 1,000,000 yards by the end of the year. With the support of family and friends she was able to achieve her goal.   Swimming helped her see that MS couldn’t take her identity away from her and that she could still be true to herself. It just goes to show that in spite of the circumstances that this life throws at us, that anyone can choose to rise above them and do amazing things.
