School Lunch Debts Paid By Anonymous Donor Total More Than $13,000
Children rely on their school lunches but sometimes families cannot cover the cost. Donors are stepping up to pay school lunch debts and help these children, one lunch account at a time.
In Johnston, Iowa, an anonymous donor recently paid 148 elementary student lunch debts that were in the red by $10 or more. About 19 percent of the elementary population in Johnston county qualify for free or reduced meals. Many children rely on their school lunches as their main source of nourishment during the day. The total donation, $13,250, went to help those students who’s accounts were keeping them from receiving these much needed lunches.
