It was love at first sight for ten-year-old Leon and a stuffed toy panda bear. While Leon was shopping with his mother at a grocery super store, he saw the Panda stuffed animal and desperately wanted to take it home. Unfortunately, his mother had recently hit hard times, and was recovering from the lost of her premature son. Extra money for a cuddly toy was just not in the cards for this family.
Knowing how very badly the boy wanted the stuffed panda, Leon’s mom did make him a promise. She told the boy that she would come back on payday to get the toy. Until then, he would just have to wait. That is when this sweet boy decided to pen this note on the side of the stuffed animal packaging.
My mum [doesn’t] have [enough] money, so she’s [buying] me Pandy [Friday] next week 15 June. So please don’t [buy] him, it will make me cry. Thank you so much from Hopeful [Future] Owner. Panda’s name – Pandy!
Isn’t it sweet that he decided to name the stuffed animal, Pandy? The note alone was enough to keep anyone with a heart from buying the toy, but what happened next is one of the most precious things. When store employees noticed the letter they decided to pitch in with their own money and buy the toy for Leon. They tracked Leon and his mom down on Facebook and invited him to the store for a special surprise.
When Leon finally got to hug his Pandy and he said,
“This is the best day of my life!”
Leon’s mommy was also touched, she decided to take the money that she would have spent on Pandy and donate it to an organization that buys tiny teddies for families that have lost babies.
